also called, ‘ whos brave enough to go under the clippers?’
many a hair cut has revitalised or even launched a models career, but i am amazed at after years of long flowing princess hair there is finally a revolution under way and almost every other shoot i have seen this season features a model with a buzz cut.
yes, they have been brave enough to go under the clippers!
so i thought it would be a good idea for a post to take a look at girls who are shaving their heads!
initially i was inspired by lorraine pascale, featured in elle april 1991, and also below
in the face feb 1991.
a shave head or cropped hair was all the rage in the 90’s for those expressing their individualism, it was alternative and made you look modern, edgy and not to be messed with.
these are all beautiful women, with big doe eyes, its not a look many can carry of with such style.
eve savail was another icon of the nineties with no hair.
i found this article on eve, who is still modelling and d jing with her shaved head along with various other creative projcets and she still looks totally amazing! check out her t shirt designs here.
and lets not forget sinead o connor, and that, “nothing compares to you” video released in 1990. i really do need to work out how to add video content!!!! but for now you will have to make do with this beautiful shot of her instead.
not a model but a definative style icon no less.
so from looks of the 1990’s to these current ladies who are following in their
path, what are their names and what did they look like with hair?
a huge english star of the moment is ruth bell, here she is with and without her hair.
i found a super interview with her where she describes her decision to cut off her hair,
she had been offered the mcqueen campaign to be shot by david sims, but they wanted her to have a hair cut, was she bothered? was she emotionally attached to her locks?
check out her response here. ruth bell hair cut
this is ruth in the saint laurent campaign. shot by heidi slimane.
a couple of other girls i spotted on the catwalks who have transformed their look with a shaved head are kris gottschalk.
Kris Gottschalk by Phil Poynter for Vogue Germany May 2016
Kris Gottschalk by Alexi Lubomirski for Vogue Germany March 2016
all imagery shared from wearesodroee.com which is a great blog for keeping
bang up to date with new editorials.
here’s kris with hair.
soekie gravenhorst with hair and on the elle cover with her buzz cut.
have also found 2 more, but they both seem to have always had short hair.
ava mcavoy, who seemed to have short elfin cropped hair for a while, so not so much a dramatic transformation.
tamy glauser, i have looked really hard, i cant seem to find a shot of tammy with hair! it looks like she has worn a cropped cut for a few years now.
i also stumbled across this super article written in dec 2015 by rosie dalton, the empowering history of the shave head in fashion. if you fancy a bit more insight.
and here’s an article with a great cross selection of models who’s careers seemed to have changed over night due to their hair cuts. hair cut career launch
and finally in the same vein there are some great before and after shots here.
so who’s your favourite, who wears it best, and are you brave enough?
