about time i mix it up … found this super edition celebrating 11 years of hip hop, yes 11 years since rapers delight was released by the sugar hill gang and changed the face of popular music.
hip hop culture had been around and enjoyed an underground following in new york during the 70’s but it was rappers delight in 1979 that showed rap was a force to be reckoned with, written by jay strongman..with some fantastic images shot by jesse frohman, enjoy.
i realise this is a departure from other posts so far, but music and fashion have gone hand in hand defining style tribes forever.
and sometimes i think the most interesting fashion bubbles up out of this.
i find this article and the images so powerful not just because of beyonces performance at the super bowl, and the stream of afro models, but again how it highlights genuine and original street style and how that influenced all the big fashion players at the time.
“go with the flow, my rhymes grow like an Afro” big daddy kane, set it off.
